For years, Caribbean regional aviation has been a relentless battle. Intra-regional carriers have come and gone, from the previous American Eagle to LIAT. However now an unlikely candidate is beginning to fill the void: Frontier.
The American service has quietly been including a wave of recent routes contained in the Caribbean out of its rising hub in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The latest one? Trinidad. Starting in July, Frontier will run three weekly flights between San Juan and Port of Spain, Trinidad, with intro fares as little as $29.
The brand new flights will formally kick off July 11, including to Frontier’s rising Caribbean community out of San Juan that can quickly embrace locations like Barbados, St Croix, St Thomas and Cancun.
Most significantly, the San Juan flights open up Frontier’s giant community of flights from cities throughout the mainland US that fly to San Juan.
“We’re thrilled so as to add nonstop service between Puerto Rico and Trinidad as we quickly increase our operations all through the Caribbean,” stated Josh Flyr, vp of community and operations design, Frontier Airways. “By providing so many low-cost journey choices to and from San Juan, we’re happy to be a useful companion in its very important and flourishing tourism business.”
Whereas it’s not but clear how lengthy these costs will maintain, they might be a game-changer for regional aviation.
